Torrential rains couldn't dampen the spirits of the attendees of the 2014 Mississippi John Hurt Music Festival. Huddled together on the porch of John's house, fans and friends enjoyed meeting each other and sharing anecdotes about Mississippi John Hurt. A few even braved the downpour to get their guitars out of their car, putting on an impromptu show on the stoop of the Museum. While the turnout was small, attendees came from as far away as Alaska, Wales, and New Zealand, a testament to the power of John's music. Music and companionship is always the order of the day, and the Festival continued after moving underneath a nearby carport to accommodate the slow trickle of newcomers. Huddled together once again, guitars were played as attendees enjoyed Mr. Bailey's amazing barbeque. Thankfully, the rain subsided in time on that Sunday to trek up the hill and pay respects at John Hurt's grave. A gorgeous rainbow appeared in the sky on the way out of Avalon, a fitting ending to another successful festival.
